Our Values, Vision and Ethos
Our Core Values
At Days Lane we pride ourselves on our core values of Resilience, Responsibility, Respect, Community, Compassion and Excellence. These values are part of every aspect of school life and take the place of traditional school ‘rules’.
Our Days Lane Core Values form the basis of the way pupils and staff engage with each other; they provide guidance for pupils and staff when responding to a range of situations, and they underpin the key learning habits of successful learners.
At Days Lane Primary School we provide a foundation for life in a happy, high achieving school, where all individuals have high expectations of themselves, respect each other and strive to excel. The school offers a wide range of learning experiences based on a progressive and exciting curriculum, which we continually evaluate and develop.
We believe passionately in providing a blend of academic challenge, moral development and enrichment that allows for the holistic development of each pupil in our care and recognise the importance of every child as a unique individual, each with their own gifts and talents.
It is our aim to build a successful partnership with parents so that pupils are given every possible opportunity to flourish. We nurture good behaviour through building relationships with pupils and engaging them in exciting learning experiences.
The whole school community - children, staff, parents and trustees are proud to belong to the school and hope that pupils and their parents will regard the years spent at Days Lane to be enjoyable, valuable, purposeful and productive.
Our aims are to:
- Promote a fully inclusive community where everyone feels happy, safe and secure.
- Create an enquiry-based curriculum that is engaging and purposeful for all children set in real life contexts.
- To ensure excellence permeates every aspect of school life.
- To develop resilient learners who take risks and learn from their mistakes.
- To instil a lifelong thirst for learning.
Core Values Booklet
Children at Days Lane will soon become familiar with our child friendly core values characters, which include large puppets of each character, children's own core values pupil booklet (from Year 1) and a core values parent booklet. Alongside these resources, we have core values stickers and certificates that relate to each value and are awarded to children for demonstrating the values.
Inside the parent booklet you will find a child-friendly story to explain what each character represents, including their choice of clothing and accessories.
The pupil booklet unpicks the characteristics of each value in child-friendly language and is updated termly by teachers, who discuss them regularly to develop children's understanding of how they can demonstrate the values through their choice of words and actions. The pupil booklets are kept in school and have been designed to move up with each child as they move through the school. It also includes a space for self-reflection at the end of each academic year.
Nursery and Reception parents - please note that children are introduced to the characters through the puppets and are awarded stickers and certificates in Nursery and Reception. The pupil booklet will be started when children enter Year 1.
We very much hope that you will talk to and promote our core values at home and celebrate when your child is given a core values sticker or certificate and ask them what they did to receive it.
We want our pupils to develop into well-rounded young citizens both inside and outside school and our core values are key to helping achieve these in partnership with parents.
